New Basketball WA CEO

After an extensive Australia-Wide executive search, the Board of Basketball WA is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Rob Clement as Chief Executive Officer.

Rob is Western Australian born and bred. He attended Scotch College before completing a Bachelor of Business, majoring in Accounting with a Sub Major in Public Accounting. He is a practicing Certified Public Accountant, a member of AIM and currently completing post graduate courses in Sports Law and Practice as well as a Graduate Certificate in Graphic Design, aimed at enhancing a considerable background in IT and computing skills.

Rob's work history ranges from the Banking Industry in the United Kingdom, extending to local, federal and International experience in a broad range of sporting codes. These, include Finance & IT Manager for the West Australian Sports Commission, Finance & Administration Manager for the Port Adelaide Football Club, Director of Sport and Recreation Services for the WA Department of Sport and Recreation, General Manager for Sport Services for the Australian Sports Commission and General Manager for Innovation and Best Practice for the Australian Sports Commission.

He has a distinguished record with, State, National and International Hockey as both a player and administrator at the University of WA, Perth Thunder-sticks and the Kookaburras.

During his time with the Australian Sports Commission he was responsible for the design and implementation of many innovative National Programs across a range of sports, including Basketball, and brings with him a unique set of skills in terms of competition, sports finance, facilities management and community sport. He also brings an extensive network that will serve Basketball WA well, especially with our major alliances and stakeholders across Australia.

Rob has also served as a Board Member of the WA Institute of Sport (WAIS) and as a Board Member of Hockey WA (2013 to 2015). He is currently an executive Board member of the Fremantle Sailing Club as General Manager and joins us after 3 successful years in that role, where he helped steer a complete $4 million plus renovation of the major club facilities as well as helping build an enviable record in Junior Sailing, with Fremantle now providing 41% of the Current Australian Youth Team.

He is seen as a “Team Player” and brings proven people skills and a diverse back-ground in administration and practical sporting involvement at Association and grass roots level, an essential ingredient for his role with Basketball WA.

His passion for working with State and National Sporting bodies prompted him to seek out his new role. Coupling this with a proven financial, managerial and governance track record, will enable him to deliver on our vision to make basketball the sport of choice for Western Australian families.

Rob has a young family, and is expecting to commence his role on 3 August 2015.
