Game summary: Friday night's game was one of persistence. Ball movement early in offence was some of the best of the season and our continued defensive pressure helped us to a handy lead by the end of the first quarter. The second quarter was full of effort without reward. The Altona zone held firm, the resultant turnovers were converted and they lead by two at half time. The boys maintained their composure throughout the second half and it was a see saw battle; our pressure and run on one side and the oppositions size and determination on the other. Not until the middle of the last quarter when the opposition’s best player was fouled out did we start to feel more confident that the game was going to go our way. The final minute had both teams all tied up and the composure that has developed in our game was really pleasing. Our passing game came to the fore and any number of players could have taken the last shot with a drive or shot from outside. Baxter Nielson, as has become his habit this season, scored the match winner. A terrific effort by all of the boys.

Next Week: Coburg (3) @ Coburg

Under 14 Boys (3)

Bellarine 34 lost to Wallan (3) 48

Best Players: Daniel Clifton, Fraser Swan, Sam Anderson.

Top Scorers: Daniel Clifton 14, Sam Anderson 8

Game summary: This week I asked the boys to show a bit more hustle. This intensity led to a first half lead at the break. Unfortunately we let our guard down in the third and allowed way too many open drives penetrate though our defense. We were unable to press well as a team and a five minute lapse saw the game slip away. There was some great passing plays and defense hustle in the first half; however we just need to be able to keep that intensity and teamwork going for the full game.

Next Week: CorioBay (3) @ CorioBay

Under 12 Girls

Bellarine 14 lost to Warrandyte 29

Best Players: Alannah Northam, Laney McFadyen, Jasmine Whatley

Game summary: We didn't get off to the greatest of starts, not scoring our first two points until the second quarter and also Antoinette Emma-Nnopu going down with an injury that could see her out for a quite a few weeks. However the girls persisted and in the second half stepped up and played much better defence. By that stage, unfortunately the damage was already done and the fast running Warrandyte side ran away with the game.

Next Week: Altona @ Bellarine 6:40pm

Under 14 Girls (1)

Bellarine 27 drew with Warrandyte 27

Best Players: Sophie Milsome, Karli Bruce, Immy Sharp

Top Scorers: Agnes Emma-Nnopu 11, Karli Bruce 8, Sophie Milsome 4

Game summary: Girls started off strong and managed a good lead at half time.  Warrandyte fought their way back into the game and managed to finish off with a draw.  The girls gained valuable experience which they will take with them for the rest of the season.

Next Week: McKinnon @ home

Under 14 Girls (2)

Bellarine 30 defeated Sunbury (3) 16

Under 16 Girls

Bellarine 51 lost to Werribee 66

Best Players: Eve Braslis, Holly Milsome, Milly Porte

Top Scorers: Eve Braslis 28

Game summary: It was a similar start to the game as the previous week except that unfortunately this time it was Bellarine off to a slow start and Werribee attacking the basket early, ending the first quarter with a substantial lead. Bellarine came back hard and played three good quarters to follow, but Werribee’s accurate shooting continued. Despite a fourth quarter shooting frenzy by Eve, with her team mates setting her up, the Storm girls were unable to close the gap. Next Week: 28/3/14 Melbourne at MSAC 8.20pm
