Zodiacs 1 Star Guard – Joel Goodenough

Men

Mt Barker Magicv German Arms 76ers. The 76ers went into this match red hot against the Magic, with top of the table bragging rights on the line. Matt Johns backed up again this week being the premium target on offence for the Magic. Playing Coach Jason Warhurst controlling the show from start to finish, paired in the backcourt with talented junior Lachlan Warhurst who made a solid debut in the A League competition. The 76ers struggled to get their normally controlled offence going, with leading scorer Jordan Houlahan registering his lowest total of the season with seven points. Coach Scott Rattus attempted to rally his troops on multiple occasions, but unfortunately it just wasn’t enough for the double blues going down by five points. Leading Scorers: Magic 43 (M. Johns 16, A. Mason 14, J. Warhurst 10) defeated German Arms 76ers 38 (S. Scott 9, T. Parker-Boers 8, S.Rattus 8)

Zodiacs 1 v Onka Piranhas. Piranhas were desperately needing a win in this match up to help erase a poor run of three straight losses. Devon McGee come into the game with “fire in his belly” looking to get the maroons season back on track. Unfortunately, this was never to be as Zodiacs Joel Goodenough wasted absolutely no time in re-asserting his position as the number one player in the competition, delivering the highest single game score for the week (28 points). Wes Roach (9 points) was again solid for the golds, with Devon McGee (21 points) the best for the Piranhas. Leading Scorers: Zodiacs 1 54 (J. Goodenough 28, W. Roach 9, O. Small 6) defeated Onka Piranhas 41 (D. McGee 21, J.Barnett 9)

Zodiacs 3 v Rimshots. Zodiacs 3 went into this contest down key players but took the fight right up to their more fancied opponents. Interim Coach Tim Glover was full of praise and enthusiasm for his young charges. For Rimshots Ross Riach and Ben Vincent paced their team from the tip, with Matt Kern playing an important support role. For the young golds, Tom Gibbon (17 points) had his best game of the season, as did Sam Graves (13 points). A closely contest match for three quarters, that opened up in the last quarter to give the fast finishing Rimshots a confident 51-36 win. Leading Scorers: Rimshots 51 (R. Riach 15, B. Vincent 14, M. Kern 11) defeated Zodiacs 3 37 (T. Gibbon 17, S. Grave 13)

Zodiacs 2 v Hackers. Zodiacs 2 kept its good run of late going with a convincing 20-point win over Hackers. Looking slightly off the pace from the start, Hackers simply had no answers for Aaron Morris (18 points) and Michael Harris (10 points). Tom Boxer again battled hard in the trenches with a game high (22 points), but only found support from Caleb Vears with (10 points). Zodiacs coach Darren Small would be pleased with his team going into the Christmas break sitting in 3 rd spot. Leading Scorers: Zodiacs 2 65 (A. Morris 18, M. Harris 10, Z. Barnes 9) defeated Hackers 45 (T. Boxer 22, C. Vears 10)

Women

Mt Barker Magic v Onka Piranhas. The perfect team performance for the Magic who had another great win defeating Piranhas 57-35. In an evenly spread effort on the offensive end, Magic had an outstanding 4 players score in double figures led by Minnie Todd with (15 points). The stats were heavily in favour of the Magic who lead at each break. For Piranhas Tyla Horsnell put in her best performance with a game high (17 points). If the Magic can continue this form, they will certainly be a title contender. Leading Scorers: Magic 57(M. Todd 17, E. Bowen 12, T. Searl 10) defeated Piranhas 35 (T. Horsnell 17, T. Hiley 9)

Meadows v Zodiacs. Zodiacs piled on the points in what was arguably their best win of the season running out winners over Meadows 50-30. Courtney Kretschmer was sensational for the golds shooting a game high 18 points. Tyla Cousins was also strong for Zodiacs with (12 points). For Meadows Georgia Martin top scored with (11 points), but down 6-28 at the main break, Meadows were never a chance. Leading Scorers: Zodiacs 50 (C. Kretschmer 18, T. Cousins 12) defeated Meadows 20 (G. Martin 11)

Senior Country Championships
January 23rd - 24th Wayville Sports Centre

Once again, EHBA will enter Senior Association representative teams in the SA Country Senior Championships. The Association has selected a list of the best players to form a Senior squad both (A-B Grade teams). The EHBA will also include an application process for players wishing to enter in the C or over 35’s grades. Refer to attached copy of the Weekly Sting for player selections. Those interested in playing C Grade or over 35’s will also be required to register their expression of interest ASAP. These teams are open to all players currently playing in the EHBA senior competitions.
