The Weekly Sting #7

Men

Zodiacs 1 v Zodiacs 2

In the biggest match-up of the round with finals fast approaching, Zodiacs 2 proved they could be a wildcard in post season play. The young golds led 13-5 inside the first seven minutes of the game and had clearly stunned their more experienced opponents. However, as Michael Harris (21pts) and Aaron Morris (14pts) got going, so too did their senior club mates, with the ever reliable Joel Goodenough turning on a clinic in the third quarter and proving to be a lone hand with 18pts. Olly Small also did well for Zodiacs 1, but missed too many easily lay-ups in the final period that proved crucial in the final score line. Though disappointed with the loss, Zodiacs 1 will certainly re-group and look to be a danger side leading into finals.
Leading Scorers: Zodiacs 2 55 (M. Harris 21, A. Morris 14) defeated Zodiacs 1 44 (J. Goodenough 18, O. Small 12)

Unfortunately, the young golds could not hold out the fast finishing Piranhas, going down by 11 points at the final siren.

KEENAN IMPRESSES ON NATIONAL STAGE

Local hills junior Keenan Geog-Dent has made a huge impression following the culmination of this year’s National Ivor Burge Championships, held this past week in Ipswich Queensland. Representing the South Australian IBP team for the first time, 17-year-old Keenan was one of the standout performers. As a 192cm forward, Georg-Dent’s athleticism and touch around the rim was a force at the Championships, statically finishing the week sixth in scoring at 20 points per game, fourth in assists with 3.0 per game, and eighth in total rebounds at 8.0 per game. Against the ACT team Keenan scored an incredible 40 points, and had 24 rebounds in which was the best all round performance of the championships. Given these performances, he would no doubt be on the National team radar with the Australian Boomerangs Squad to be announced shortly. Kennan plays locally for the Zodiacs Basketball club in the EHBA A-League, as well as the Eastern Mavericks Youth League team in the Division 1 U/23 competition.
