Under 19 Boys

In a close Under 19 Boys Competition Rebels and Speewa played off in the 2nd semi on Tuesday night with the Speewa team outscoring their opponents 50 to 40. Speewa were led by the Sala brothers at the offensive end where Tom top scored with 16 points and James finished with 15 points. For the losing Rebels team Cal Farrell and Jack Woodward were solid contributors and will get a second chance in to advance to the grand final to play off in the preliminary final.

1st semi – Saints 38 defeated Fireflys 35. This final showed a great team effort by Saints towards the end of the game where their defensive pressure by all players paid off with holding onto a 3 point win. Hugh Broad drove well to the basket scoring 19 points and for Fireflys Lochie Gardner top scored with 15.

Preliminary Final – Rebels 45 defeated Saints 30. Rebels were able to get the ball through hands in tonight’s game finding opportunities to score much more freely than the Saints team. Another fine effort by Rebels Cal Farrell scoring 17 leading all scorers and Hugh Broad scored 14 for the Saints.

GRAND FINAL – SPEEWA 63 (Jack Hickmott 23, Tom Sala 21) defeated REBELS 46 (Cal Farrell 21, Jack Woodward 17)

UNDER 19 GIRLS

In a low scoring game Fireflys 25 defeated Saints 18 in the 2nd semi of the Under 19 girls. Fireflys have been considered the top team all season and they proved to be too strong with a determined with Olivia Jones scoring 11 points and was well supported by Gabi Storer’s defensive pressure. Sarah Hepburn led the Saints team with 8 points and will meet Rebels in the Preliminary Final.

1st semi – Rebels 46 defeated Swans 30. The Rebels team ran away with the win in the second half with all team members featuring on the score board. Zoe Spence-Benfield top scored with 20 points for Rebels and Kelsey Rowe finished with 18.

Preliminary Final – Saints 36 defeated Rebels 35. Katie Foott was impressive in leading the Saints to victory by 1 point with some huge rebounds and finishing off with 9 individual points. Rebels better players were Hannah Grant hitting some nice perimeter shots and Phoebe Power working hard in defence.    

GRAND FINAL – FIREFLYS 33 (O Jones 12, S Decker 8) defeated SAINTS 15 (S Hepburn 6, B Kelly-Guthrie 5)
