FFSA Club Referee Initiative

Football Federation SA (FFSA) is pleased to confirm that participation numbers for 2015 have increased. The increase is being experienced across the juniors and social women’s competitions, with a total of 36 new teams nominating for the 2015 season. It is also expected that there will be an increase in the number of teams for the Collegiate League.

The growth of the sport also provides some challenges, one of these being the need to increase the number of match officials to cater for the growth. FFSA have developed a number of initiatives to address this concern, which forms a key focus of the FFSA 2015-2017 Strategic Plan.

Where there is a shortage of match officials, the officiating of these games are undertaken by a club appointed person, which will continue in 2015. Currently the people being allocated to these games do not receive any training or resources to assist them on game day. To address this issue FFSA will be implementing a program to provide training to club referees and to provide equipment to both the club referee and the club to enable a game to be officiated.

Each club will be required to nominate one person, preference is for the club to nominate two people, to attend a three hour practical club referee course. Three courses will be conducted, one in the North, South and West. At the conclusion of the course equipment will be provided to the club and the participant as follows;

Participant - A Green Shirt and a whistle

The Club - Club Referee Pack containing a set of Assistant Referee Flags and Yellow and Red Cards. Clubs will be provided packs according to the number of participants that attend the course.

The dates for the courses are outlined below. All courses will be held from 6.30pm – 9.00pm with light refreshments being provided.

Monday 23 March - Elite Systems Football Centre, Cowan Street, Angle Park
Wednesday 25 March - Coopers Stadium, Holden Street, Hindmarsh
Thursday 26 March - South Adelaide Soccer Club, O’Sullivan Beach Sports Centre, Galloway Road, O’Sullivan Beach

The only requirement that the participant will need to fulfil prior to attending the training is to complete the online laws of the game that can be found by clicking on the following link; https://laws.myfootballclub.com.au/

FFSA is also encouraging clubs to acknowledge the contribution made by club referees by paying them a match fee. The match fee to be paid is 50% of the full fee as outlined below;

U12/13 - $22.50
U14/15 - $25.00
U16/17/Social Women - $30.00

Please find below a nomination form to complete and return by Friday 20 March 2015.

If clubs or volunteers have any queries relating to this matter please do not hesitate to contact FFSA on 8340 3088.
