Lady Reds v Sydney FC Match Preview

The Adelaide United Lady Reds will have another attempt to gain three points, when they host Sydney FC at the Adelaide Foreshore Football Centre tonight in Round 7 of the Westfield W-League.

The Lady Reds fell short against Newcastle with the Jets managing to score a late equaliser to snatch a point at last Sunday’s double header at Coopers Stadium.

Lady Reds defender Lauren Steer is still disappointed with last Sunday’s result and believes that she and her mates should’ve delivered a better performance.

“I definitely thought we should’ve got the three points being at home and having our crowd out there,” Steer says.
“Definitely thought we should’ve put in a better performance on Sunday and I do think that we are better than what we performed.”

According to Steer, the Lady Reds could’ve been “more clinical up front” whilst the combination play through the midfield could’ve been better too, but Steer insists that the Newcastle game isn’t a reflection of their season so far.

“It was definitely a one-off thing,” Steer says,” I think in the early part of the season, in the first few games, we were very ruthless in the front third and that’s how we got our wins so far.”

Upcoming opponents Sydney FC may sit in second-last place with six points, equal with Brisbane Roar and Newcastle Jets, but Steer still thinks that the Sydneysiders are a good side.

“They’re a good side I think,” Steer says,” it will be a good game for us being at home at the Shores.”

“So having our home crowd there will definitely help.

“I think our team is definitely ready for the challenge and with our captain MJ (Marijana Rajcic) getting injured on Sunday, I think it’s given us all that bit of energy that we need and we’ll definitely play for her on Friday and for the rest of the season even."
