Flores: I want to stay with Adelaide

Flores: I want to stay with Adelaide
by Lee Gagliardi

Adelaide United midfielder Marcos Flores revealed his desire to remain at the club after his current contract expires at the end of the 2011-12 season.

But, the 25-year-old said the constant talk and speculation surrounding his future is frustrating and he is not rushing to put pen to paper.

A passionate Flores also admitted he believes he can help football and the A-League continue to flourish in Australia.

"I have one more year on my contract," he said.

"This is the last time I want to talk about my contract. I have one more year left so I don’t know why everyone is desperate for me to decide."

"I'm enjoying every second I have in Adelaide because I love Adelaide.  I want to stay in Australia, I think I will help Australia, I want to help Australia. This is what I want."

Last week Flores was a special guest at the Johnny Warren Football Foundation Gala Dinner in Sydney and when quizzed about his future by SBS legend Les Murray, Flores replied "Love and business are two different words."

The midfield maestro cleared the air as to what he meant by the remark, stressing he wants to remain in Adelaide and stated all discussions involving his contract will be done in the appropriate manner.

"I want to explain what is love and what is business and what I meant by that," he said.

"I will play free for all the supporters and I will wait for all the supporters outside my apartment, I will wait with a ball and I will play with the supporters for four hours for free – this is love."

"Now, business I want to stay in Adelaide, I wish to stay in Adelaide. I never compare Adelaide to another team in another country, I can't compare with Qatar, I can't compare with Korea or Japan."

"I compare (Adelaide) with Australia and if Adelaide is proud of that (offer) I think they should be relaxed. Everything I have to talk about, I will talk about in one room with the owners and with the coaches."

The 2010-11 Johnny Warren Medal winner expressed his appreciation for the JWFF and their work across Australia.

Flores also revealed his desire to assist the foundation in the development of football, including providing opportunities for disadvantaged and indigenous children.

"I want to say thank you to the Johnny Warren Foundation," he said.

"I think it's one of the most important things in this moment. I want to say thank you for the last week."

"I want to say we need help because I want to fly every weekend to all the cities and help all the kids across Australia."
