FFSA Head of Womens' Football and Adelaide United Westfield W-League coach

Football Federation South Australia is pleased to announce the appointment of David Edmondson as the Head Coach of the Adelaide United Westfield W-League team for the next two seasons.

Edmondson will be employed by the FFSA as the full time Head of Women's Football.

Edmondson holds a UEFA A License and coached the New Zealand Women’s Under 17 team in their 2010 World Cup Campaign.

Edmondson has been involved in the women and girls game in New Zealand for the past 10 years and is looking forward to arriving in Adelaide in September to start in his new role.

"I am excited about the opportunity to work with some talented female footballers in South Australia, both in my role as Head of Women's Football and as head coach of the Adelaide United Westfield W-League team," he said.

"I have a track record of producing teams that perform above expectations and players that are capable of playing on the International stage and I hope to continue that in this position. I cannot wait to get started when I arrive in early September."

FFSA CEO Michael Carter stated Edmondson's appointment was great for the Women’s game in South Australia.

“David’s appointment as Head of Women’s Football in South Australia is a significant step in the right direction for the Women’s and Girls game. David will coach the Adelaide United Women’s team and will be responsible for the future development of girls in South Australia," he said.

FFSA Technical Director Airton Andrioli stated the added resource in the area of Women and Girls Football is a welcome addition to the game in South Australia.

“The game continues to expand and women and girls Football has shown that a strong pathway exists for players," he said.

"The recent success of the Matildas is testament to the opportunities available for young up and coming stars. The appointment of David is exciting for the game and we look forward to him joining the technical team in the FFSA structure.”

The Westfield W-League season kicks off on October 22 with fixtures yet to be released.
