Devine Super League Golden Boot winner Michael Matricciani admitted he is excited ahead of joining Indian I-League club Chirag United.

MetroStars' gun striker signed for the Kerala based outfit last month and leaves Australia on Saturday, before making his debut next week.

Matricciani finished the Devine Super League season with 18 goals from as many matches and acknowledged the decision was a difficult one, signing for Chirag on the eve of MetroStars' finals campaign.

"I'm very excited. The last week has been pretty hectic for me," he said.

"I don't normally get nervous but I'm looking forward to getting there and playing my first game next week. I can't wait to get there and settle in and start training and meet my new team-mates."

"Everything came about pretty quickly; it was a bit of a whirlwind actually. Obviously I'm disappointed about leaving Metro at this stage of the season after a pretty successful campaign where we finished top."

Matricciani was training with Adelaide United but was told by the Reds they were unable to offer him a full-time contract.

The 25-year-old admitted he hopes the Indian experience will act as a 'stepping stone' as he looks to progress his football career.

"This is just something I needed to do for myself," he said.

"I'm trying not to look too far ahead and just worry about tomorrow and next week. I want to take one step at a time and concentrate on that."

"I'll use this experience as a stepping stone, I don't know what will happen in the future and I'm trying not to think too much about it. If something happens then it does."
