MJ off to Sweden

Lady Reds striker Marijana Rajcic has secured a move to Sweden, signing for Northern Division 1 club Gustafs Goif.

The 23 year-old admitted heading abroad is something that she had been considering for quite some time.

Rajcic flies out on Sunday and will join her new team-mates ahead of the second match of the season.

“I signed with an agent last year and he’s been trying to get me something overseas,” she said.

“It just came out of the blue really. This is what I’ve wanted now for a little while.”

“It’s a smallish town in the north of Sweden so the club is in the Northern Div 1 League. Their season started on Sunday and it goes till mid-October.”

Rajcic conceded she is nervous about her switch to the Swedish club, but is also looking forward to the challenge and hopes it will help her development.

“I am a little bit (nervous),” she said.

“Hopefully it’s like a stepping stone to help me develop and grow as a player and personally as well and hopefully to help out the team there as well.”

“I can’t say I’m not (nervous) but I’m definitely looking forward to it. It’s very exciting and I’ve wanted it for a long time and now that it’s actually happening it’s a bit surreal. I don’t think I’ll believe it until I’m there really.”

“I think it will be a good experience and a good challenge. I’ve since found out that the team has lost a few of their better players from last season a challenge will definitely be there.”

The Lady Reds striker who netted three goals this season has already been given a heads up from former Adelaide United team-mate, Ashleigh Gunning.

The American enjoyed a stint in Sweden before re-joining the Lady Reds for the 2011-12 campaign.

“I’ve spoken to Ashleigh who played in Div 1 but in the South League in Sweden,” said Rajcic.

“She said that both Div 1 North and South are about on par so I’m expecting a bit of a challenge. I’m not sure if it will be as good as the W-League or better, but I think it will definitely be an improvement from where I’ve come from.”

With the season finishing in October, Rajcic is hoping to be fit and firing for the 2012-13 Westfield W-League season.

“I’ll be back in Adelaide in October and planning on hopefully making the Lady Reds W-League side,” she said.
