Lady Reds v Sydney FC Wrap

Sydney FC put in one of the best performances of the year to defeat the Lady Reds 5-0 in an ominous warning to the rest of the competition. Sydney showed football smarts to give themselves ample opportunities in which they took over the course of 90 minutes.

The action started in the 23rd minute when star import Jasmyne Spencer weaved her way down the right flank. Her precise cut back into the middle of the box found Nicola Bolger whose first time hit found the back of the net.

Rollason doubled her goal tally just 4 minutes later. This time it was an inspirational run from deep in midfield to the box, calmly slotting the ball into the back again.

Some impressive work from Lady Reds skipper Kristy Moore caused the Sydney FC defence problems. In the 42nd minute a resulting corner of Moore's work gave Katie Holtham a free header which went agonizingly wide.

The Lady Reds made a substition at half time with Alexandra Chidiac replacing Monique Iannella and it gave them some extra spark in the final third. Despite this good work, Sydney FC pounced again as Nicola Bolger smacked a first time rocket to make it 3-0. After a scramble in the box, the ball bounced perfectly into Bolger's path and she made no mistake.

The Lady Reds were brave in their efforts with Moore and Chidiac continuing to use their pace to cause havoc down the flanks.

Sydney FC scored in the 67th minute with Spencer setting up from the right, bringing the ball to the left where Olivia Price hit a well placed strike into the far corner of the net.

The final goal of the match was scored with Spencer capping off a fine individual performance, cutting in from the right and finding the back of the net from just outside the box.

The Lady Reds next face Western Sydney Wanderers in their final home match of the 2014/15 Season on Sunday the 23rd November at Adelaide Shores Football Centre.
