Masters Games - Match of the Day
Group two of the Men’s 50+ and 55+ football started this morning with WaterAid Wanderers taking on Camden Hasbeens United, in a game that started an hour early due to the high temperature forecast.
WaterAid Wanderers had the advantage of being a 50+ team over a 55+ Camden side, taking to the attack early in the game with some promising chances, with one shot ricocheting off the post in the opening minutes.
After a shaky start, Camden then pressed from behind, with some defensive errors from WaterAid allowing a few chances. WaterAid soon reasserted themselves, however, with Camden’s attentive goalkeeper preventing them from taking the lead. The two teams went in scoreless at the break.
Eager to make up from their wasted chances, WaterAid pressed hard in the opening minutes of the second half, with a close range effort put over the crossbar. Camden struggled to hold against WaterAid’s overwhelming attack and finally conceded from a header seven minutes into the second half.
WaterAid Wanderers followed up on their previous goal with two more stunning strikes, with a corner kick curling above a caught off guard keeper, and another shot curving into the bottom left from outside the box.
Camden attempted some counter attacking plays as time ran out, but were unable to probe far into WaterAid’s defence before the final whistle.
Final score: WaterAid Wanderers 3 – 0 Camden Hasbeens United.
