2016 FFSA Junior Cup Finals Preview
Football Federation SA Junior Premier League Cup Finals are just around the corner and the event promises to be an exciting, action-packed day of junior finals football.
The Finals will be held at Elite Systems Football Centre on Sunday the 14th of August with the first game kicking off at 8:45am.
There will be appearances from current Adelaide United players as well as a merchandise stand able to be accessed throughout the day. Entry fees are $5 for adults, $2 concession and free for children under the age of sixteen.
The Under 12’s Cup Final will kick-start the day at 8:45am with a clash between Raiders and Adelaide City.
Being one of four Adelaide City Junior teams to make it to the Final, the young-guns will be eager to get City off to a winning start and bring more silverware home for the Black and Whites.
However, being seven points clear of Adelaide City and having beaten them 2-1 in the last time they matched up this season, Raiders will look to bring a lot of confidence and momentum into the game to help push them over the line.
The Under 13 Cup Final will see a clash between rivals Adelaide City and MetroStars in the second match of the day, kicking off at 10:15am.
With MetroStars currently sitting equal top with a game in hand over Raiders, they will be looking to continue their dominance in the Under 13 competition by bringing the Cup home to TK Shutter Reserve on the weekend.
It will definitely not be a walk in the park, though, as they have to match up against the most lethal attacking side in the competition. Adelaide City Under 13’s have scored a whopping 73 goals in 15 matches so far this season, making them an extremely fearful attacking threat for any opponent.
The action continues with the Under 14’s at 12:00pm, where MetroStars take on Modbury Jets.
Coming into the game top of the table and having convincingly defeated Modbury Jets 6-0 previously in the season, MetroStars won’t be short on confidence in their ability to get the job done against the Jets on Sunday.
Since that 6-0 loss to Metro in Round 6, Modbury Jets have gone undefeated with five wins in their last nine games and will look to prove to MetroStars that they are not the same side they were earlier in the season.
Another Adelaide City team will have their chance to win silverware as the Under 15's kick off next against West Torrens Birkalla at 2:00pm.
West Torrens Birkalla are a class outfit in the JPL U15 B-Grade as they are currently sitting undefeated at the top of the table with 14 wins from 15 games. Having scored 61 more goals than every other team in their competition, they will be looking to show everyone that despite their division, they are in-fact the best Under 15 team in the state.
With Adelaide City also being top of their competition in the JPL U15 A-Grade, they will also be looking to prove that they are the champion Under 15 team in South Australia.
The Under 16 Cup Final will carry on the flow of back-to-back games as Cumberland United take on Para Hills Knights at 4:00pm.
After locking horns in a one-all draw at A.A Bailey Reserve back in Round 4, it will be hard to pick who will have the edge going into this match on Sunday.
Just six points separate the two in the JPL with neither side in reachable distance of league leaders Campbelltown City at this stage in the season. This match-up will be decided by whoever wants it more on the day, as with any game of finals football, it will be unpredictable and anything can happen.
The day of Cup Final action will be wrapped up with the Under 17 Cup Final at 6:00pm as Para Hills Knights battle against Adelaide City under lights.
Adelaide City is currently sitting in the bottom half of the table whilst Para Hills Knights are sharing top spot with Cumberland United with a game in hand.
On paper it would seem like the Knights will have the edge, having previously beaten City 3-1 earlier in the season. However, as the old cliché goes, games are not won on paper and you can never count an Adelaide City team out of any game, especially when it comes to finals football.
