Westpac Celebration of Football

Saturday October 6 marked the Football Federation SA’s Awards Night – the inaugural Westpac Celebration of Football.

Held at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre and hosted by football identities Stephanie Brantz and David Basheer, the night saw 500 people from the Football Community unite and celebrate the 2012 Football Season. 

Walking the green carpet under the Adelaide Entertainment Centre’s stunning Orb were legends of the game Sergio Melta, Shirley Brown, Hall of Fame Inductees Richie Alagich, Sharon Black, Jim Rossis and Carl Veart, all who were joined by current stars including award winners Alemayo Kebede, Nicholas Orr, Emma Checker and Racheal Quigley. 

Also receiving awards were the State’s elite and most promising match officials.

Joining them were the integral members of the football community, the tireless and hardworking volunteers, family and friends.

Dignitaries who attended the evening included Adelaide City Council Chief Executive Officer Peter Smith, the Hon Tony Piccolo MP on behalf of the Hon Jay Weatherall MP, the Hon Michael Wright MP, the Hon Tony Zappia MP, avid FFSA supporter the Hon Steve Georganas MP and the Hon Terry Stephens MLC.

Other guests included Nick Bianco, Adelaide United CEO Greg Griffin and Adelaide Chief Football Writer Val Migliaccio. 

Attendees enjoyed premium wines from Bird in Hand along with beer and cider from major FFSA partner Carlton United Breweries, while cars supplied by major partner Peugeot lined the entrance and green carpet. 

Following the cocktail hour guests moved in to the Arena to be greeted by the night’s joint Master of Ceremonies, ABC’s Brantz and SBS’ Basheer. 

Following the formal presentations and awards, 12-piece Adelaide band Motown Connection kicked-off the party which carried on late in to the night.
