Waterhouse helps Australia U17Qualify

Lady Reds midfielder Jess Waterhouse captained the Australia Women U17 side to a hat-trick of victories in Manila after an 8-1 thrashing of the Philippines, meaning the Australians advance to the next round of the AFC Women's U17 Qualifiers.

Waterhouse starred again in the midfield before Ayesha Kirby opened the scoring in the sixth minute.

Alycia Macqueen made it 2-0 minutes later before Waterhouse almost added a third but her free-kick from the edge of the area was saved.

On the quarter hour, the skipper scored her second goal of the tournament with a 30 metre rocket that blasted into the top corner of the Philippines goal.

The Philippines managed to pull a goal back but Caitlin Cantrill quickly responded with Australia’s fourth before Tulia Palozzi made it 5-1 at the break.

Cantrill grabbed her second after the hour and completed her hat-trick in the 73rd minute to see Australia lead 7-1 with a quarter hour to play.

Palozzi wrapped up the match with her second and Australia’s eighth to complete an impressive tournament.

In their second match, Australia defeated Myanmar 5-0.

Isobel Dalton broke the deadlock on the half hour before Waterhouse made it 2-0 on the stroke of half time with a brilliant solo effort.

But, there was still time for one more with Sunny Franco heading home from close range.

Ayesha Kirby made it 4-0 in the 80th minute with Kally Lewis rounding out the scoring right at the death.

The U17 girls opened up the tournament with a 5-1 win over Thailand.

Franco and Gavin both scored twice with Cantrill also finding the back of the net.
