Football Federation SA regrets to inform Dave Edmondson will not be continuing in his role as FFSA Head of Women’s Football and Adelaide United Westfield W-League Coach as of Friday, January 25. 

Edmondson coached his final match with the Lady Reds in the 3-1 loss to Perth Glory at Burton Park on Saturday, and leaves FFSA to take up opportunities interstate.

In two seasons with the Lady Reds, Edmondson guided the side to its first win in three years after a run of 34 matches without victory, as well as two wins in the 2012/13 campaign – the first time since the 2008/09 season.

Edmondson admitted it was a difficult choice to end his time with FFSA but hopes his contribution to Women’s football in SA has been positive.  

“I do not make the decision to move on easily and I would like to thank FFSA for the opportunity they have given me and the players for the effort they have put in over the last two seasons,” he said.

“I took over at a difficult time, when the Lady Reds looked like they may fold and on the back of two years without a win. Thanks to FFSA the team survived and I hope I have given this group of players some belief in going forward.”

FFSA CEO Michael Carter applauded the efforts of Edmondson and the strong progress made during his tenure.

“Dave has done a good job for Women’s football in this State in the limited time he had,” he said.

“We have seen improvements in the W-League with Adelaide United and I’m sure further progress would have ensued if Dave had continued on.”

“We thank him for his contribution and are obviously disappointed to lose him. The search for a replacement has already begun.”
