Awer Mabil wins NYL Player of the Year

Adelaide United winger Awer Mabil has won the Hyundai National Youth League Player of the Year award at Football Federation Australia’s Awards Night in Sydney on Monday.

Mabil made his debut for Adelaide United this season in January against Perth Glory and starred for the Reds NYL team.

The 17-year-old made five appearances for United including two starts in the A-League and scored eight goals during the NYL campaign.

He is the second youngest player to start an A-League match.

Mabil arrived in Australia six years ago with his parents and three siblings after spending 10 years in a refugee camp in Kenya.

The speedy attacker spent time at Playford City before progressing through Football Federation SA’s National Training Centre program as well as enjoying a spell at Campbelltown City.
