Pink Football Weekend a huge success

Football Federation SA’s Pink Football Weekend was a huge success with a number of clubs joining in to support Breast Cancer Network Australia’ Pink Sports Day.

Pink Sports Day is a way for communities around Australia to pay tribute to those affected by breast cancer and the South Australian football community united to support the cause.

All FFSA Senior Referees in the National Premier League fixtures and Adelaide Airport Women’s Cup fixtures wore pink socks and used pink whistles which were kindly donated by AusRef.

From the Men’s competitions MetroStars, Raiders, Playford City, Croydon, White City and Adelaide Comets all work pink arm bands while donations were collected at TK Shutter Reserve at the match between MetroStars and Raiders.

Various teams at West Torrens Birkalla wore pink as did Pirates, while Sturt Lions also joined in to back the cause.

MUWFC, Para Hills East, South Adelaide, Sturt Marion, White Pointers, Fulham United, Adelaide City Women and Cumberland United Women were among the Women’s clubs who got involved.

Adelaide University’s U15 side wore their pink away strip while Adelaide City and Cumberland raised $100 from a sausage sizzle.

Supporting the BCNA follows the success of the Adelaide Airport Charity Cup which raised funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation and the Pink Football Weekend will be followed by the Cancer Council’s Call to Arms campaign in July.

BCNA is the peak national organisation for Australians personally affected by breast cancer.

BCNA inform, empower, represent and link together people whose lives have been affected by breast cancer.

BCNA works to ensure that women diagnosed with breast cancer, and their families, receive the very best treatment, care and support possible - no matter who they are or where they live.
