Metro United WFC turns pink to score against breast cancer
METRO United WFC 'pinked up' the club this month in support of Breast Cancer Network Australia's (BCNA) Annual Pink Sports Day.
All teams made an effort to wear something pink during their Mother's Day matches on Sunday, May 12 in support of the women battling breast cancer or those who have survived the deadly disease.
A whopping $600 was raised by Metro United, with all funds going to BCNA to ensure women diagnosed with breast cancer are supported and provided with the best information and services.
Club President, Dora Rinaldi said the club was delighted to be involved in a fundraiser which saw the soccer community come together in a show of strength and support for families affected by breast cancer.
"Our Club has been directly affected by breast cancer and some of our players have either had a mum, auntie, grandmother or friend who has had the disease," Ms Rinaldi said.
"It was a great opportunity for our club to contribute as much as we could to this great cause.
"Breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in women and being a 'women's only' club, it's a cause that many hold close to their hearts and the club is happy to help out and show support where we can."
The club registered for the day through the BCNA website and funds were raised online, with committee members also collecting money during training and matches leading up to the event.
