Ross Aloisi Appointed Westfield W-League Lady Reds Head Coach

Football Federation SA is pleased to announce it has secured Ross Aloisi as the Westfield W-League Lady Reds Head Coach for the 2013/14 Season.

Aloisi captained Adelaide United to the inaugural Hyundai A-League Premiership in 2005/2006 and led the club to the 2007 A-League Grand Final.

The five time Socceroo was also the inaugural captain of the Wellington Phoenix in the franchise’s debut season in 2007/2008.

In an 18-year club career that has seen him play in Switzerland, France, Austria and Italy, Ross also won a National Soccer League (NSL) Championship with Adelaide City in 1991/1992.

The current head coach at local State League club West Adelaide, Aloisi notes that coaching at the National League Level will be a new challenge for him and he is looking forward to working with the W-League squad.

“First and foremost I will be looking to learn more and develop my player management. Although the players will be different, the football philosophy will remain the same.

“This is an opportunity for me personally to become a better coach in a different environment and improve my coaching education.”

FFSA Chief Executive Officer Michael Carter said Ross is the right person for the job.

“Ross will be an asset for the women’s game in South Australia and will bring a level of professionalism to the team and squad.

“We don’t want to make up the numbers and Ross is a competitive person who won’t accept anything but a committed playing group. It is not a right to participate in the W-League it has to be earned. Ross will expect that players are prepared physically for the coming season.”

The holder of an AFC A-Licence, Aloisi is keen to build a team that understands that while they are competing in a professional environment where the objective is to win, it is also about the team learning to play a good brand of football.

“It is about playing the football you want to play and then winning the way you want to win” stated Aloisi.

“It is going to be tough, but it is about the team learning to play the type of football that we will implement and hopefully have a more successful season because of it.”

The Westfield W-League Season kicks off in November with squad signings to be released shortly.
