Jenna McCormick Awarded Lady Reds Player of the Year

The Westfield W-League season wrapped up for the Lady Reds following their Round 12 game against the Newcastle Jets. The season has been recorded as the Lady Reds most successful to date, with local Adelaide University player Jenna McCormick being awarded the 2013/14 Lady Reds Player of the Year.

Head coach Ross Aloisi said that the award which was decided on by a 3,2,1 voting system by all coaching staff goes to an outstanding player.

“It was very close, between 3 and 4 players. We looked at each individual game and the season as a whole and Jenna was a stand out.

“Considering she came out to trial as a number 10 and we ended up putting her in the back line, she was outstanding from the very first game against Western Sydney Wanderers. Each game she was outstanding.

“Jenna has developed as a footballer and a leader. With the type of qualities she possesses we named her as Co-Captain with Melissa Barbieri and she went from strength to strength. She showed a lot of leadership qualities out on the park for someone of her age.”

Aloisi adds that he hopes and wouldn’t be surprised if the centre back is selected in a National team in the near future.
