FFSA & City of Salisbury Futsal Carnival

Football Federation SA in conjunction with the City of Salisbury recently held a successful futsal carnival in the states north.

The tournament held on March 8 at the Gardens Recreation Centre involved 16 teams totalling 101 players and 45 games across the one day on 3 pitches, providing an enjoyable carnival atmosphere for all involved.

The carnival saw futsal players from across the state participate as well as two teams from Jamestown providing a fantastic opportunity to involve the greater futsal community in this first annual event.

Three divisions were established with U10’s to U12’s, U14’s to U16’s and Athletes with a Disability which saw 5 teams take part. Football Federation SA’s recently founded Futsal Academies contributed 5 teams to the competition with impressive results.

The U10’s-U12’s division saw the FFSA Futsal Academy West U’12s claim the title with the City of Salisbury KickStart Academy Team as Runners Up. Oscar Williams from FFSA Academy West was named the Best & Fairest of the day.

In the U14’s to U16’s age group the FFSA Futsal Academy East team found success with their U14’s 1 team, while the U14’s 2 team were Runners Up. Best and Fairest for the side was Louis Nye from FFSA Academy East 1.

The Athletes with a Disability competition was won by Special Olympic United with Salisbury Magpies coming in second. Best and Fairest was awarded to Ryan Kinneer who is a part of the FFSA Paralympic State Team and played for Special Olympic United at the tournament.

The carnival provided the opportunity to establish ongoing futsal competitions and showcase the facilities available in the northern area.

Football Federation SA thanks the City of Salisbury and all involved in producing the event.
