Western Border Soccer Association MiniRoos

The Western Border Soccer Association is delighted to announce that WBSA MiniRoos will be launched across the region this week.

WBSA MiniRoos will provide the opportunity for junior boys and girls to compete in u7 and u9 cohorts in a fun, yet social, soccer program under the banner of a local club Mount Gambier MiniRoos Foundation Club.

CEO of the Western Border Soccer Association Andy Shoemark is delighted that the program will unite the football community and provide a solid foundation for local juniors . "MiniRoos is a smaller version of football (soccer) that will provide the opportunity for local boys and girls aged 5 - 9 with a fun introduction to the world game."

"MiniRoos is designed for kids; it is all about having fun, learning new skills and making life-long friends. Across the region the MiniRoos program will be delivered by four local Mount Gambier base, grassroots clubs. I have great confidence that MiniRoos provides opportunities for boys and girls of all abilities, shapes and sizes to play football" Mr Shoemark added.

"WBSA MiniRoos will allow young players from all over the region to become involved in one of the participating Mount Gambier MiniRoos Foundation clubs and participate in structured competition” he said.

Apollo Soccer Club, Blue Lake Soccer Club, Gambier Centrals Soccer Club and the Gambier City Sharks are all participating in the program.

To be eligible to play, boys and girls need to be five years old on the first of January.

WBSA Technical Director Scott Dickson added that "the program will be held in Mount Gambier in 2014 and will potentially move across the region in 2015.

In 2014 that will mean one kick off time, no travel, the opportunity to pull on a WBSA MiniRoos Foundation Club Shirt and to play against other participating local clubs all at a very family oriented location, a family oriented time and an outstanding family oriented price."

"The other benefit is that local MiniRoos players will be joining the National Football Family and enjoy the benefits that this will bring, added to that locally we will be supporting the rollout of MiniRoos with the establishment of a MiniRoos Coaches Network, which will provide coaches with weekly session plans, monthly coaches workshops and the creation of a web based coaching mentor resource, tentatively called MiniNet.

“It is a very exciting time to be involved in football with the 2014 World Cup on the horizon and the Asian Cup set to be contested in Australia in January 2015."
