'Race to Score' - FFSA Visits Oakbank Racing Carnival
The Oakbank Easter Racing Carnival is like no other in the world. Located in the picturesque Adelaide Hills, it attracts more than 60,000 people across the two days of racing on Easter Saturday and Easter Monday.
This year saw the introduction of the Kids Zone; a place where children could go and try new sports and activities. Through this, Football Federation SA (FFSA) were able to provide an opportunity for girls and boys to come along a try football.
The football section proved to be very popular with the young racegoers and had a constant influx of girls and boys from10am in the morning right through till 4pm on both days. Many parents of the children taking part in the football activities commented that it was a great initiative as the races are long days and often children require entertaining , so giving them an opportunity to try something new is fantastic.
The event also provided an opportunity for local football clubs to come out and promote their clubs, some of which included Sturt Marion Women’s & Girls Soccer Club, Hahndorf and Bridgwater Juniors Soccer club.
Altogether the weekend proved to be a great success in providing mass participation in football for boys and girls of all ages and confirmed that football is the world game which can be played anywhere, anytime with anyone.
