Powell Commits to Lady Reds & Growing the Women’s Game

Football Federation SA (FFSA) is pleased to announce the re-signing of 2013/14 Lady Red, Tiarn Powell.

The 23 year old has returned to Adelaide to re-join the Lady Reds, as well as take up her newly appointed role in the Community Football department as Female Participation Officer.

A clear objective for FFSA is to grow and increase participation for girls and women in football. In this role, Powell is an impeccable role model to young female participants of where football can take you.

The appointment to the Female Participation role, as well as continuing as a Lady Red, is a clear fit for the striker who joined the Lady Reds in 2013 from her local club in NSW, Manly United.

“The two (Lady Reds and Female Participation) work perfectly in conjunction. I am looking to increase participation in football for girls by going to schools, running clinics and later in the season continuing successful Ladybirds program.

“It is great when I can go to schools and promote football as well as the Lady Reds and interact with the kids, gaining their interest in coming to games and being involved in football.. It is nice to be a role model for these girls.”

Powell notes that she was eager to return to Adelaide for the upcoming Westfield W-League season and the side now has a point to prove.

“I knew if I got the opportunity to come back that I definitely wanted to. The coaches and the club run things very professionally and I enjoyed that last year. For me it was a very obvious decision.

“Clearly we need to improve on last year being that the bar has been set very high from what we achieved. We know what we need to do to reach higher than we did last year and I am looking forward to getting back out there and showing what we can do this season.”

The Westfield W-League will kick off the 2014/15 season on 14 September 2014 with the Lady Reds first home game 21 September 2014 at the Adelaide Shores Football Centre.
