Visconte King of 2014 Season

Croydon Kings Rocco Visconte has been awarded the Sergio Melta Medal – SA National Premier League Player of the Year at the 2014 Celebration of Football last night.

The awards evening recognising the highest achievers of the 2014 season was held at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre with 644 guests in attendance.

Visconte, a clear stand out, polled 46 votes from 26 matches in the 2014 Season with 11 matches polling maximum votes to take home the prestigious award.

The Croydon Kings player who was named Man of the Match following the 2014 SA National Premier League Grand Final was also awarded the inaugural Marcellina Player of the Year and included in the SA National Premier League Team of the Year, cementing his stellar performance throughout the season.

Championship side Croydon Kings also produced the Peter Nikolich SA National Premier League Goal Keeper of the Year in Nicholas Munro. Matthew Pelizzari from Adelaide Olympic was given the nod in the NPL State League with the Les Avory trophy.

Ivan Karlovic from MetroStars was presented the Martyn Crook Award - SA National Premier League Coach of the Year. Karlovic directed his side to their second consecutive Minor Premiership under his leadership and will coach his final match on Sunday as MetroStars face NSW side Bonnyrigg White Eagles FC in the PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues Grand Final.

The first South Australia National Premier League Team of the Year was also presented, rewarding the hard work of 11 players from the competition as voted by the Premier League coaches.

Nicholas Munro was named as Goal Keeper of the side with Paul Pezos and Ricardo Da Silva from West Adelaide, Allan Welsh and Rocco Visconte from Croydon Kings, Nicholas Bucco, Matthew Halliday and Joel Allwright from Adelaide City, Perry Mitris from MetroStars, Shaun Harvey from Campbelltown City and Alex Mullen from Para Hills Knights all in the line up.

MetroStars Stefan Cali was named the John Aloisi Rising Star while fellow team mate Perry Mitris was handed the Golden Boot award for his 22 goals throughout the season.

James Skeffington from Port Adelaide Pirates was awarded the Bob Telfer Medal – the SA NPL State League Player of the Year. Skeffington polled 34 votes throughout the 24 matches played in the 30 game season.

Also from Pirates, Head Coach Derek Hall was awarded the NPL State League Coach of the Year after leading his side to become the 2014 SA NPL State League Champions and gaining promotion to the Premier League in 2015.

Daniela Di Bartolo from Adelaide City Women’s Football Club was awarded the Shirley Brown Premier League Player of the Year for the Women’s competition. Di Bartolo polled 22 votes from the season, 1 ahead of West Adelaide’s Ruth Wallace.

Barry McGrath claimed the Bob Bush Premier League Coach of the Year in the Women’s Competition while SA NTC and Westfield W-League Lady Reds player Dylan Holmes took home the Rising Star award.

Kelly Barltrop from Para Hills Knights was awarded the Women’s Premier League Goal Keeper of the Year with Elise Garlick from Sturt Marion earning the Women’s Premier League Golden Boot.

Maddison Kennedy took home the Mick O’Malley Young Referee of the Year award while David Alberton was awarded the Mike Ingham Referee of the Year.

Long standing Adelaide Cobras supporter Freda Murphy was presented with a deserved Volunteer of the Year award and Playford City Patriots Junior Coordinator and Senior team Captain Matthew Gaston was awarded the Community Coach of the Year.

Two inductees in to the South Australia Hall of Fame were named with both David Hewitson and Aldo Perilli being rewarded for their years of service in football, entering the Hall of Honour as members for Outstanding Contribution.

Football Federation SA congratulates all winners from the evening’s event as well as all involved in the 2014 season.
