Boots for Borroloola - Community Assistance Required

Football team The Cyclones, from the tiny little town of Borroloola in the Northern Territory will be the first all Indigenous side to play in the Westfield FFA Cup this year with the team travelling 15hrs by bus to play just one match in Darwin on the 22nd of April.

Few players in the Cyclones side own their own boots & the club has been lucky enough to have several pairs donated to them over the years and stored in their football shed down by the school oval. Each session the boys get down to the ground a little early to find a pair of boots that fit (or barely fit), lace them up and then get under way with training.

Unfortunately on Sunday evening the football shed was broken into & over 20 pairs of boots that senior players use were stolen leaving the side with nothing to train or play in only 2 weeks out from the big match in Darwin.

As there is not enough sponsorship money each year to replace the gear as the cost of travel to each tournament is in the thousands Football Federations across the country are asking everyone in their football communities if they are able to ask players to donate their spare boots to the Northern Territory team so the boys can compete in the Westfield FFA Cup this year & future tournaments, as well as junior size boots to ensure more children can play the game.

New or used boots in various sizes (in good condition) that can be donated would be greatly appreciated.

All boots that are able to be donated can be delivered to the Football Federation SA office:

Coopers Stadium
Gate 5, Holden Street, Hindmarsh

Or shipped/posted directly to:

Football Federation SA thanks the football community for their assistance.
