MUWFC Celebrate 10 Year Anniversary

Metro United Women’s Football Club (MUWFC) celebrated their 10 Year Anniversary recently at their club rooms in Pooraka while inducting Life Membership to the players and volunteers who have given over 7 years of service to the club.

MUWFC President Dora Rinaldi addressed the room with memories of how the club came to fruition in 2005.

A meeting was held with the people in attendance having the same ideas and vision to form their own Women’s Football Club. The strategy moving forward was discussed; they spoke about grounds, coaches, players, resources, volunteers and club logos knowing that they had a lot of work to do with very little time.

Knowing that that if they wanted to have Premier League status they had to field Senior and Junior teams, form a committee, assign coaches, find volunteers and develop their own brand all within three months. The task was big but their desire was mammoth.

The Founding Members of the club all attended the celebratory evening and include: Alyssa Close, Caroline Fazekas, Jo Ross, Maria & Nick Stoilas, Marie Spagnoletti, Nenad Stojakovic, Nicole Leonardis, Selina Papalia, Stephen Woodcock and Dora Rinaldi.

Many of the Founding Members still have an impact on MUWFC today from daughters playing at the club to coaches to assisting at club events or on the club committee.

MUWFC successfully entered Senior and Junior teams in their inaugural year of 2006 and success on and off the park shortly followed with 13 League Championships and 8 Cup Trophies.  Players from MUWFC have represented State, National and Westfield W-League.

Very proud of the achievements to date, Dora expressed her appreciation to those who helped the club be where it is today.

“I would like to acknowledge that none of this could be possible without the hard working past and present committee members, coaches, volunteers and undoubtedly the best supporter group in SA over the last 10 years.

“I would like to thank our club sponsors. Clubs like ours only survive because of your generosity. Your sponsorship goes a very long way and we can’t thank you enough.

“Metro has played on numerous pitches and finally secured Pooraka as our ‘Home’ in 2011. We have worked tirelessly around the clock and spent well over $25,000 over the past 5 years to improve our facilities and to give the girls every opportunity to succeed in their sport.

“We have achieved so much in so little time. But I feel our greatest achievement is building a Club that people relate to as their second family.”

Football Federation SA congratulates MUWFC on their success and 10 Year Anniversary.
