Country Futsal Championships a Success

The inaugural Country Futsal Championships were held Saturday 26 September 2015 at the Central Oval Community Sporting Hub in Port Augusta with 17 teams participating across the day.

Over 150 kids filled the sides from Port Pirie, Jamestown, Roxby Downs, Port Augusta Futsal, Adelaide Hills and Football Federation SA (FFSA) Futsal Academies.

A total of 41 games were played across 3 courts at the brilliant new facility in Port Augusta.

Several State coaches and the State Futsal Director of Coaching Cristiano Dos Santos as well as FFSA Junior Competition Coordinator Alex Sunasky were in attendance to identify talented players.

FFSA Game Development Manager John Mundy, who was also present said “It was fantastic to see kids that came from a variety of locations throughout SA being given the opportunity to showcase their talent and their local organisers should be congratulated on having the foresight to acknowledge that Futsal is a highly skilled game and a great development tool for those who wish to participate in the outdoor game as well.”

In addition, several referees from Jamestown and Port Augusta Futsal were instructed by State Futsal Referee Coordinators Andrew Murray and James Lesicar across the Championships to further develop and provide opportunities to referees in regional areas.

FFSA would like to thank all involved on the day including players, coaches, referees, staff, volunteers, parents and Port Augusta Council for hosting the event.
