Lady Reds Share Points with Glory

The Adelaide United Lady Reds shared the points tonight with visitors Perth glory at Adelaide Shores Football Centre in Round 8 of the Westfield W-League, finishing the match at 1 a piece.

Despite the match being rescheduled to an alternate venue and later kick-off due to high temperatures at Coopers Stadium, both sides came out firing regardless of the unexpected disruption to preparations.

Glory were quick off the mark with Shawn Billam slotting one past Reds keeper Kaitlyn Savage at the 7 minute mark.

The remainder of the first half saw the majority of chances land in the home sides end however they were unable to convert.

Lauren Steer looked like she was about to equalise at 11 minutes in however her shot hit the cross bar. Allira Toby took aim in the 27th minute as did Sarah Killion in the 29th with both attempts being easily claimed by Glory keeper Mackenzie Arnold.

Perth applied pressure on the Reds after returning from the half time break with Caitlin Foord taking the ball right down to the 18 yard box before being stripped of it by Sarah Killion.

Relief came for the Lady Reds when Alex Gummer shot through an amazing goal from the corner kick, equalising at the 75 minute mark.

In high winds the game continued at a frantic pace with Caitlin Foord giving everything in an attempt to claim back the lead over the Reds.

With under 7 minutes remaining in regular time, Glory’s Vanessa Di Bernardo was awarded a free kick that sailed over the cross bar, much to Adelaide’s reprieve.

Another chance presented itself for the visitors in added time with a free kick awarded to Kim Carrol after Abby Dahlkemper was shown a yellow card, however it was easily saved by the keeper.

The Lady Reds now travel to Canberra in Round 9 while Perth Glory are home to Sydney FC.
