Preview

The first ever PlayStation 4 Women’s National Premier League Grand Final features the State’s top two teams.

Metro United and Adelaide City have long competed at the summit of women’s football in South Australia, with the 2016 season being no different.

The pair has met four times this season with never more than a single goal deciding the winner.

In Round 7, there was a 1-1 draw, Round 14, a 2-1 Adelaide City win before Metro United celebrated winning the Premiership with a 1-0 victory in the final round.

Two weeks ago, in the Qualifying Final, Metro were successful again by the same margin and won direct passage to tonight’s decider.

This forced Adelaide City into a Preliminary Final against Fulham United – a side that beat them to claim the Women’s Premier and State League Cup Final just a fortnight earlier.

A late Daniela Di Bartolo equaliser sent the game to extra-time and a penalty shootout, where the Black and Whites won by the narrowest of margins.

That brings us to this evening, with Metro aiming for the Premiers-Champions double in the inaugural WNPL, and City searching for some silverware of their own having missed out on two occasions already this season.

Laura Stockdale and Roxanne Dodd appear to be the sharpest of weapons up front for Metro having both reached a double figure goal tally this season.

Although, two of Donna Cockayne’s seven goals this season have come against City – including the Qualifying Final game winner.

The Black and Whites will do well not to forget about her.

For the visitors, Di Bartolo will look to repeat her Beyond Blue Charity Cup performance from back in February which featured a stunning hattrick against tonight’s opponents in a 4-0 win.

Her strike partner, Georgia Campagnale, knows what it takes to win a game against the Premiers from her own boot with the match-winning strike in Round 14.

It is clear there are players capable of deciding this clash all over the pitch which ensures the crowd on hand tonight is in for a treat, with the ultimate prize on the line for the victor.
