Football Federation SA is delighted to announce two inductees to the South Australian Hall of Fame for 2016, Simon Catanzaro and Jason Trimboli.

Simon Catanzaro has been involved in the game in South Australia for over 26 years, having represented the State on five occasions and was also a Young Socceroo Squad Member from 1999-2001.

Simon is also the first of only two players to win the FFSA Player of the Year Award three times in 2005, 2007 and 2008.

He achieved this feat at Adelaide Olympic and Campbelltown City – the latter two Sergio Melta Medals were won by Catanzaro while he was Captain at the north-east club. He was also Club Player of the Year in his 2005 Season at Olympic.

Catanzaro dedicates the award to all of his immediate family who contributed to his career.

“It’s a very monumental occasion which I can’t wait to celebrate with all of my immediate family,” said Catanzaro.

“I’m only 35; I never expected anything like this because I’m still so young.”

“Having being born interstate, I’ve been overwhelmed by how I’ve been embraced by the South Australian football community – I’m very proud and excited to continue to grow SA football with my coaching career.”

The next inductee, Jason Trimboli, played over 400 games in South Australia, scoring over 285 goals and represented the State on 13 occasions including with the South Australian Amateur Soccer League (SAASL) .

Trimboli was selected in the Premier League Team of the Year in 2003, and also knew how to find the back of the net.

He won the SASF-FFSA Golden Boot Award six times and the SAASL Golden Boot twice. He also won an Individual club’s Top Goal Scorer Award on 20 different occasions (16 times in the semi-professional league and 4 times in the SAASL).

Trimboli also has the team medals to match his goal scoring record. He was SA Premier League Champion in 1998 and 2002 and also won the following – Fed Cup Winners Medal 2003, Summer Cup Winners Medal 2004 & 2007, SAASL Championship Medal 2012 & 2014 and the SAASL Challenge Cup Winners Medal in 2012.

Trimboli spoke of the honour it is to be inducted to the Hall of Fame.

“It is a huge honour to be inducted.”

“I have been involved in South Australian football my entire life. To be recognised for this award means the world to me. I would like to thank the Hall of Fame Committee and all involved for inducting me,” said Trimboli.

The 2016 inductees to the Hall of Fame will be celebrated at the 2016 Celebration of Football – to be held on Saturday 15th October at the Adelaide Convention Centre.
