Under 14 Regional Boys Squad finish second at Singa Cup

South Australia's Under 14 Boys Regional Squad have finished as runners up in the 2016 Singa Cup in Singapore.

The tournament, taking place from November 7 - 11, features Squads from Schools, Football Programs & Federation's from all the continent.

The Group Stage paired FFSA's Under 14 Boys with Thamrin Graha Metropolitan Soccer School from Indonesia, Hong Kah Secondary School of Singapore, Mindil Aces from our Northern Territory & the esteemed Boca Juniors' International Soccer School based in India.

SA advanced through the Group Stage undefeated with three wins and 2-2 draw to their name.

FFSA's Head of Game Development John Mundy says the tournament provided a great foundation for players and coaches.

"These overseas tournaments provide a valuable education for both players and coaches," said John.

"Playing against opposition from different countries presents different challenges, particularly in their style of play."

"So far in this tournament, we have come up against teams that have played ‘long diagonal balls’, ‘parked the bus’ and ‘played very narrow (without a 7 & 11)’.

"Fortunately we have had a coach in Cristiano Dos Santos that has been able to analyse the opposition very quickly and equip our players with the ‘key to unlock the door’, which has seen our boys be very competitive in their progress through to the Semifinals."

A summary of the matches FFSA have played thus far is as follows:

FFSA 2 - 2 Thamrin Graha Metropolitan School

FFSA 1 - 0 Mindil Aces

FFSA 6 - 0 Hong Kah Secondary School

FFSA 4 - 0 Boca Juniors Football School

FFSA 4 - 2  Young Guns Bandung Semi-Final.

FFSA 2 - 3 Jurongville Secondary School Final.

We congratulate all members of the participating squad, including our Coach Education Manager, Cristiano Dos Santos, who led the team, and Team Manager, Sandi Petersen, for accompanying the team on their journey and for her photos which are at our Facebook page.
