At Grovedale Reserve, Barwon SC hosted the Deakin Ducks and managed to hold the league leaders to a suprising 1-1 draw which halted the Ducks’ winning streak. This was only the second goal that Deakin had conceded so far this season keeping their goal difference at +13. Liana Banjanin scored for the home team, while Kimberly Covarrubias scored for the visitors.

At Stead Park in Norlane, Surfside Waves were visitors to an inferior Geelong SC side. The visitors suffered a very early ankle injury to their centreback however Mel Debruin stepped in and filled the role on her first game for the season. The teams went into half time with the score being 1-0 courtesy of a goal to Alexis Pearson. In the second half Alexis decided to nail three more in the back of the net to seal the result as a 4-0 victory to the Waves.

Over at Kardinia International College, Drysdale destroyed Kardinia 5-1. In the first five minutes Kardinia managed to score a goal against the visitors through Sofia Harrop, however Drysdale refused to let that get the best of them. After the goal was scored Drysdale switched on and had control for the rest of the game.

After a penalty in the 30th minute and a free kick from outside the box Serena Clapp got a brace which Nicole Carter and Hannah Teesdale with followed singles apiece. Olivia Smith then scored a spectacular goal to finish the game.

Following the completion of Round 4 of the competition, Deakin Ducks remain on top of the ladder, despite dropping valuable points to Barwon. They are followed by Surfside Waves who trail the leaders by one solitary point and Drysdale sits in 3rd spot following their triumph at Kardinia.

The pick of this weekend’s Round 5 action is the Drysdale v Deakin Ducks game, which will be a battle between the top of the ladder team and the 3rd placed outfit, to be played on Saturday at Howard Glover Reserve at 3.00pm.

Kardinia will host Geelong SC at Kardinia College at the same time, while Surfside will host Barwon on the Friday night at Shell Road Reserve with kick off set down for 7.30pm.
