Ten clubs have launched girls-only MiniRoos programs to help get the next group of Matildas kickstarted.
Clubs across Victoria are launching new girls-only six-week AIA Vitality MiniRoos Kick-Off programs to help encourage young girls to pick up the beautiful game.
The new initiative comes off the back of the Matildas’ success thus far in the FIFA Women’s World Cup, having qualified for the Round of 16 on Wednesday morning.
Football Federation Victoria general manager of football Matthew Annells said launching girls-only programs was a great and inclusive way of bringing them to the sport.
“Girls only programs provide the perfect opportunity for young girls to learn the game in a fun filled, introductory environment with their friends,” Annells said.
“The emphasis is on learning the basic skills of the game and not on the competitive elements of sport.”
The clinics take place over six weeks and cost anywhere between $70 and $120, depending on the host club.
There are 10 clubs from Morwell to Ocean Grove and everywhere in between hosting these clinics.
The nation-wide initiative uses short, game-based sessions to introduce the sport of football to newcomers in an inclusive way.
It focuses on learning new skills, being active, making life-long friends and, potentially, unearthing the next generation of Socceroos or Matildas.
Annells said the clinics gave girls a way to get into the sport in a fun-filled atmosphere, and a chance to make new friends and embrace football.
“They can share their new experiences with friends and family members and achieve success together in a safe environment,” Annells said.
“Activities will involve working together as a group to achieve an outcome allowing the girls to build bonds from their collaborative efforts.”

3. Collingwood City FC
4. Darebin United SC
5. Glen Eira Junior SC
6. Hamilton SC
7. Montrose SC
8. Morwell Pegasus SC
9. Sunbury United Junior SC
10. Surfside Waves SC
