FIBA and SportingPulse enter next stage of partnership with release of new LiveStats mobile features.

Technology and digital media solutions company, SportingPulse today released new mobile features for the International Basketball Federation’s (FIBA) official LiveStats tool provided to federations and leagues internationally for free

Nick Maywald, Chief Executive Officer of SportingPulse, said that the new features of the LiveStats tool truly supported basketball as an international sport.

“In Australia, we’ve seen a renewed interest in basketball. Television ratings are up and membership bases continue to grow. With the new LiveStats tool, we have created a solution that strengthens the connection basketball fans can have with their sport,” he said.

“The LiveStats tool means fans can have a fully integrated experience, watching a game on TV while following player statistics in real-time seamlessly, either online, on mobile or via tablet devices.”

The LiveStats tool is used by officials courtside to track team and player statistics during basketball games from the grassroots to elite level.

Prior to the international roll-out, the redeveloped LiveStats tool was launched in beta with the Australia’s National Basketball League (NBL) and Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) to resounding success. The leagues saw a 50 per cent increase in mobile site visits since beta implementation.

Patrick Baumann, FIBA Secretary General and member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), praised SportingPulse for developing a tool that brings a new dimension in following the game.

“Over the last four years of our partnership with SportingPulse, they have demonstrated a clear dedication to the sport and bringing fans closer to the action,” he said.

“The partnership we have with SportingPulse provides us with an innovative and cost-effective way to connect our fans to the game they love.”

Four years ago, as part of its approach to help national member federations deal with new technology to manage membership and competitions, FIBA joined forces with SportingPulse to create technological solutions to enhance the game experience.

As consumer consumption habits shift to multiple devices, SportingPulse re-visited relevance and usefulness of the LiveStats tool. It was re-developed using responsive design that optimises the LiveStats experience to web, tablet or mobile devices.

Additional new features mean fans can also share results on Facebook and Twitter further boosting community engagement.

SportingPulse provides free tools to international sporting federations and leagues to help them commercialise and grow.

The mobile webcast is available in 15 different languages – including English, French, Spanish, Chinese and Arabic – and is used extensively in 75 countries including France, the United Kingdom, Mexico, Argentina as well as throughout South East Asia.

Facts around international basketball fans accessing the live basketball game statistics on their mobile:

  • Over 20,000 unique browsers followed as China qualified for the 2012 London Olympics, defeating Korea in the 2011 FIBA Asia Women’s Championship Game in Japan.

  • 1.2 million unique browsers followed a game through LiveStats in 2011.

  • The FIBA U17 and U19 World Championships have utilised the LiveStats tool since 2009.
