Cobram Victory travelled to Kyabram on Sunday in a top-of-the-table clash against an undefeated Shepparton South outfit.

Victory took an unchanged line-up into the match with Carpenelli passing a late fitness test to lead his side out.

Victory started the match slowly and allowed South to have many set pieces around the penalty box as they piled pressure on Victory defence early.

South finally found a breakthrough after 10 minutes when a mix-up in the Victory defence saw a South striker break through to open the scoring.

South continued to press and within five minutes found its second through a free kick into the box, which saw a diving header at the near post, doubling South’s advantage.

South was dominating the proceedings early and could have easily scored more, but Victory weathered the storm and gradually worked its way back into the match as it started to make some impressive attacks forward.

Victory finally broke through a stubborn South defence thanks to a well-struck Henry half volley from the top of the box to bring Victory back into the match as the scores were now 2-1.

Victory could have easily been level by half-time when a great run by Clark down the wing and into the box forced the South keeper into a great save to keep his side in the lead at half-time.

Victory knew the first goal after the break was crucial and it could not have started any worse as South scored its third of the match through a quick counter attack in the opening minutes to restore its two-goal lead.

Victory looked to have run out of legs as South continued to pile pressure on the Victory goals, but with no further success.

Victory changed things up with 20 minutes to play and began to threaten the South goals as Redman saw his shot come back off the cross bar and Henry made some great runs forward.

However, the Victory forwards just were not able to finish off the good work.

A Victory corner picked out Hardwick at the top of the box, which forced the South keeper into a great save that also came back off the cross bar as Victory pushed everything forward.

With five minutes to play Victory finally hit the back of the net with Romain scoring yet another cracker from 25 yards out to set up a thrilling final few minutes.

Victory had one last chance to equalise deep into injury time as Clark took on three players as he cut into the box, but his cross went straight across the face of goals with no Victory player able to get a final touch on the ball as Victory went down 3-2 for its first loss of the season.

This Sunday Victory takes on Tatura at the Cobram Showgrounds before travelling to Melbourne only two days later to take on Southern Stars in the Docherty State Knockout Cup.
