Shepparton News - By Gregor Mactaggart

Cobram Roar will start warm favourites to defeat a resurgent Shepparton United on home soil tomorrow.

The FFV Goulburn North East men’s division one league leaders go into the round five clash refreshed following the bye.

Life as a newly-merged club has been a dream to date for Cobram Roar, having posted three wins from as many starts.

The Roar is also yet to concede a goal in more than 270 minutes of senior action, a record coach Adam Gatcum will be keen to see extended here.

But Shepparton United heads up to the border town in a good frame of mind following its first win of the season last week.

United rode its luck, but also played some good football at times to down Shepparton 2-1.

Billy Wright’s young team will have derived plenty of confidence fromthe result and should stick to his philosophy of keeping the ball on the deck.

The inclusion of Mohammad Hadi Dad was a big one for the Blues, but they are likely to be without last week’s goalkeeping hero Alex Ganino.

Tatura welcomes winless Shepparton to Howley Oval in the other topflight game.

The Ibises start the match as favourites by virtue of home advantage and some solid performances.

Tatura certainly showed plenty in the 2-1 loss to Shepparton South, with playing-coach Ben Shepherd again highlighting what a good recruit he has been.

Jared Cunniff will pose a real threat to the Reds defence, but Shepparton is also capable of enjoying dominant periods when in possession.

The Reds are likely to need players such as Johnny Davkovski, Lachlan Brett and Troy Kennedy to impress if they are to get their first points of the season. Kick-off is 3 pm. In second division men’s action, Cobram Roar hosts Shepparton United at 1 pm, Tatura and Shepparton square-off at 1 pm and Kyabram Phoenix travels to McEwen Reserve for a 1 pm contest against Shepparton South.

Women’s top-flight matches have Cobram Roar and Shepparton United meeting in a top two showdown, while Shepparton takes on Tatura at Howley Oval.

The two matches kick-off at 11 am.
