U16 Boys win All Ireland Gold

Congratulations to our U16 Boys and to coach John Kennedy on there fantastic win in Athlone. As Ulster Champions they went up against the power houses of Irish Basketball Munster Champions Castleisland and Leinster Champions Drimagh. This was a huge win for the lads and the club , great credit to them as they missed the Donegal game in croke park to concentrate on making thier own bit of history.  No prouder man than coach John Kennedy who has put in tremendous work with this dedicated group of lads. Close Rivals and neighbours sligo were also in the semi finals and just missed out on making it an all north west final but great credit to the Sligo lads and all the nuetral support who got behind our lads coming down the home straight. Details are shetchy about the game but by all accounts Seamus Carr nailed a big 3 pointer at a crucial stage to set up the win. Well done to all the lads who took part. It was a terrific day of sport for the Town as well as our County men winning in croke park the Girls Relay team took Gold aswell and must be one of the most sucessfull relay teams ever as they added to their massive collection of all Ireland medals. Well done Girls from the Basketball Club. Our Chairman Kieran Murphy and his assistant Rosa Devaney can be very happy with their haul too as they guided 2 rounders teams to All Ireland Silvers. A great day for the town and who says kids sit in front of the TV all day!! Not these ones by the look of it. Thanks to the Waterbus who always come up trumps and brought all the Medal winners down the bay on a celebration cruise! Also to the helpers and coaches like Anne Mc Gowan, Kieran, Paul O Gara and Rosa and of course JK who give up their time to help these younsters achieve such wonderful heights! Donegal for Sam and a few other titles toooooo!!!!
