Basketball in competition mode

Competitions for juniors and senior men and women at Saxby’s Stadium on Tuesday afternoon and night moved into round one earlier this week following a couple of weeks of trial games.

Team numbers have remained steady when compared to the competitions played in the second half of 2015 and it has been decided that the women’s competition will see all teams play each other once before being split into divisions for the run to the finals series in June.

Like all sports an individual player registration fees are payable and need to be finalised this month for all new players and those with an existing Basketball NSW card which expires in February 2016.

The current fee for seniors is $80.00 with players not turning 18 in 2016 being $65.00 and primary school children in school years 5 and 6 set at $50.00

Young children in the Kindergarten to year four Saturday school competitions are required to pay a $25.00 registration fee.

Saturday school basketball will be back at Saxby’s Stadium bright and early tomorrow morning with games timed to tip off at 8.30am when the little ones hit the court. As the day progresses, the older children play their games with the last games in the early afternoon set aside for students in school years 7 to 10.

The Magic Monday skills sessions on Monday from 4.00pm to 5.30pm continue to draw big numbers and any children wishing to learn more about this great game can simply drop into Saxby’s Stadium with $2.00 to join the fun and games.

There is no need to make a booking as there is plenty of move and there is no requirement to be in attendance each week but it should be remembered regular participation leads to faster skill improvement and greater skills leads to move enjoyment when the children jump on the court for their games on Saturday.

Basketball NSW released the competitions formats for the various age groups to participate in the 2016 Molten Waratah Northern Junior Basketball League earlier in the week and here are the details for the Taree Tornadoes teams. The U18 boys and Under 16 girls will start their campaign in Tamworth over the weekend of 02 & 03 April with the U14 girls and boys and the U16 boys on the road to Tamworth three weeks earlier with their round games to tip off on the weekend of 12 & 13 March 2016.

All teams are in serious training and Taree Basketball wishes them success as they take on the challenge of competition at the representative level.

Saxby’s Stadium is the home of Taree Basketball and details about junior, women’s or men’s basketball may be obtained on the telephone at (02) 6551 7456, by email tareebasketball@hotmail.com , on the net at www.taree.basketball.net.au or track down taree.tornadoes on Facebook.
