Star Profile - Perry Lawson - London Lions

London Lions' Perry Lawson is the man who has won it all in British basketball. The 6'1" Great Britain international guard was a key player on the dominant Newcastle Eagles team of 2006 - who won the clean sweep of Play-Off Finals, Championship, Trophy & Cup.

Lawson has continued to rack up winners medals in a BBL career that has taken in Eagles, London United, Guildford Heat, Sheffield Sharks and Mersey Tigers before returning to London last season with the Lions. The BBL Cup was won with the Sharks in 2010 and he nearly repeated the full haul with Tigers in 2011 in a team coached by his mentor Tony Garbolletto.

Lawson started his career with Garboletto in the Hackney in the programme, set-up by the legendary London basketball coach the late Joe White, where he developed into a true point guard with reliable ball handling and distribution skills.

Capped 12 times by England, he was called up into the first squad of the Great Britain team reformed in 2006 to build-up to the London 2012 Olympic Games. The team was christened the "Little Pioneers" by Head Coach Chris Finch, who was full of praise for Lawson's contribution.

Finch said: "We felt Perry had the potential to help us at the point guard position in that first year and that’s what he did. He played limited minutes but was a good role player and team mate. That was vital in the first summer."

His BBL career will enter its 10th year when he suits up for Lions in the Cooper Box in September. Lions Head Coach Vince Macauley will once again want Lawson to back-up former BBL MVP Rod Brown and contribute the minutes (24.5 per game) and stats (4.5 points and 3.3 assists per game) that he did last season.

Lawson leads a strong Lions' London Summer League squad - that keeps the British core that took the club into the BBL play-offs in their first season in London.
