Moreton Bay United are looking to return to winning ways this Saturday night when the host defending NPL Queensland champions Olympic FC at Wolter Park.

Jets lost their first match of the campaign last week against Redlands United, but coach Terry Kirkham said the result wasn’t a concern.

“It was just down to three moments. Two defending issues,’ said Kirkham. “We’ve been through it on the video tape with the boys.”

“Actually, watching the tape, we were very good. So, no problems. We’re still scoring a lot of goals and won’t change anything.’’

Jets remain the leading scorers in NPL Queensland with 26 goals this season, an average of four per game. They currently sit fourth in the standings on 11 points, level with this weekend’s opponents but ahead on goal difference.

It’s a position Kirkham said he would have accepted at the start of the campaign, but he still wonders what might have been.

“The two draws we had (against Harimau Muda ‘A’ and Brisbane Roar NYL), I look back on hitting the post and crossbar and think we could have had four more points,” said Kirkham.

“A game like that at Redlands is going to pop up during the year. So, yes, I would take where we are now.”

“If a couple of things had gone our way we could have been top of the table, but we still have a long way to go.’’

Kirkham said he is relishing the test Olympic will provide to his Jets’ defence this weekend.

“It’s a great learning curve for us. Redlands and Olympic both have very good front halves.”

“I’m looking forward to it. One thing about my career is in six or seven years playing Olympic, they have always been very, very good games.”

Saturday's kick-off is scheduled for 7:15pm.
