Brisbane Roar have hit top form ahead of their Hyundai A-League opener with a resounding 10-0 win over Olympic FC at Goodwin Park on Wednesday night.

New signing Mensur Kurtishi netted five goals in a rampant Roar performance as Mike Mulvey's men notched seven in the first half before the PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland Grand Finalists steadied the ship.

Matt McKay struck first for the visitors on his return from injury, lifting a smart finish over the advanced Shannon Lancini.

Fellow midfielder Liam Miller fired in a second in the 20th minute before Kurtishi grabbed his first shortly after, heading home Jack Hingert’s right-sided cross.

The damage only worsened for Olympic FC in the final 15 minutes of the first half as Kurtishi fired in a further three while Dimitri Petratos bent in a free-kick to make it 7-0 at the break.

Hosts Olympic, in their first match since being knocked out of the Westfield FFA Cup by Central Coast Mariners, made a more competitive start to the second half with Dylan Wenzel-Halls, Scott Bow and Reuben Way all unleashing efforts at goal.

The score remained unchanged until the 66th minute when Kurtishi helped himself to a fifth, while even a Jade North penalty against the crossbar worked in Roar’s favour as the loose ball was worked to Petratos to slam home.

A superb double save from Brandon Cuminao at one end initially kept the score inside double figures and at the other Wenzel-Halls went close to a first for Olympic.

The Hyundai A-League champions wouldn’t be denied another for long though with Steven Lustica emphatically finishing the tidy work of Thomas Broich to cap the final scoreline at 10-0.

Olympic FC’s season has now come to a close, but for Brisbane Roar it’s just beginning as they commence their title defence at home to Adelaide United on 12 October.
