Sunshine Coast FC have claimed their first silverware of 2015 - winning the Australia Day Dunny Races event at Aussie World theme park.

Fire were represented by PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland players Ray Schultz, Louis Shepherd, Chris Jancevski, Tim Hollingsworth and Brady Cronk in the event, which sees teams pull a wheel-mounted ‘thunderbox’ over a 200 metre course.

The Fire players were presented with a toilet-seat trophy to acknowledge their new-found unofficial title of ‘Dunny Racing Champions of the World’.

Fire’s victory saw them claim bragging rights in the unusual battle of the codes, with two local Aussie Rules clubs knocked out in the opening rounds and Fire vanquishing local rugby league club Sunshine Coast Falcons in the final.

Speaking after the victory, Cronk said he hopes the trophy wouldn’t be Fire’s last in 2015.

“After we won it all the boys involved agreed it was a good way to start to the year,” he said.

“It’s just a fun thing but it gets that winning habit early on - it’s good for the morale of the team.”

That morale will be tested in Fire’s first pre-season hit-out next weekend in the Macron Cup at Redcliffe when they face Sunshine Coast Premier League club Maroochydore FC.

Fire were scheduled to play over the long weekend against tournament hosts Peninsula Power, before heavy rains saw the fixture cancelled.
