Sunshine Coast FC Women kicked-off their pre-season on Sunday with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Olympic FC Women on the Sunshine Coast.

In a foretaste of the inaugural PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland Senior Women’s season ahead, the teams proved evenly matched with a penalty from Holly Vidulich early in the second half settling the result in Fire’s favour.

The penalty was earned after Fire’s Madi Warren was felled in the box.

Despite the favourable result, Fire Women’s coach Dave Bensted was eager to point out it was still early doors for his charges.

"This was the first friendly of the season, our fitness levels were down a little and we had some players missing but it was good chance for us to allow some of our younger players to gain some experience ahead of what will be a very competitive season,” Bensted concluded.

Olympic FC Women continue their pre-season preparations on Sunday against UQFC Women at Goodwin Park.
