UQFC Women have recovered from a goal down to notch a second straight win, ousting a persistent Peninsula Power 2-1 at University of Queensland Field 5 on Sunday.

Linley Archard and Greta Bodey were again prominent for the hosts after starring with four each in the club’s opening-round win.

It was Power’s Britta Whitfield who stole the spotlight first, however, as she broke the offside trap and slid her finish underneath Dani Harbot to make it 1-0 against the run of play in the 11^th minute.

Amy Chapman almost pulled one back immediately, but it was instead a mishit shot from the Australian international which gave UQFC an avenue back into the match.

Chapman’s effort sat up in the area for Linley Archard to continue her hot form by equalising matters, with the two sides entering the break at 1-1.

Further action followed within 15 minutes of the restart as Bodey joined Archard on five goals for the season, handing UQFC the lead with a clean strike from outside the area.

The tempo eventually started to slow after a frantic first hour, allowing the home side to hold on to all three points despite Power almost nicking a draw with a shot against the crossbar in the closing moments.

UQFC coach Wayne Gibbon commented after the match about a need for improvement from his victorious team.

“It wasn’t a desperately good performance. Hopefully we play better next week against The Gap because if we don’t we could well be in trouble,” Gibbon said.

Power assistant coach Jamie Kirwan was hearted by a gutsy performance.

“We knew we had a tough battle today against UQFC, they’ve got some quality players all over the pitch, but we are quite happy with the way we played,” Kirwan said.
