Easter treats came early for The Gap Women as they eased to an 8-0 win over Moreton Bay United Women at Wolter Park on Sunday.

Gabe Marzano starred with four goals to move Gators second ahead of the weekend break.

The damage was done as early as the 10th minute as Gators raced to a 2-0 lead, with Marzano turning home the opener from Suzie Roeger’s cutback and Bethany Ashton thumping a second into the top corner.

Despite the early setbacks the following period was Jets’ best of the match as they held the visitors scoreless until shortly before the break, when Marzano effectively decided the contest by converting Charli Mclennan’s cross to make it 3-0.

The margin only extended after the break thanks to three goals in eight minutes.

Ruth Blacburn first netted her fourth of the season, followed by Marzano firing in her hattrick from close range and Jess Dillon making it 6-0 with a shot from the edge of the penalty area.

Megan Price, assisted by Ashton, ensured Jets’ pain continued in the final 10 minutes before Marzano sealed her perfect afternoon in the dying moments with a fourth from outside the area.

Speaking after the match, Jets coach Lorna Dent was relieved to see the back of the league’s top four teams.

“We’ve definitely had the start from hell but The Gap are a very good team and played some exceptional football,” Dent said.

Gators coach Rob Askew was pleased his side overcomame any possible cobwebs after a week off.

“We needed to put in a good performance today and I think that was reflected in the scoreline,” Askew said.
