Kai Smith has received further recognition for a stand-out 2015 campaign by claiming the major honours at Brisbane City’s end-of-season awards night.

The 19-year-old defender, who made 18 appearances for City this season, was recognised as the club’s Player of the Year and the Player’s Player at the event held at Corporate Travel Management Stadium on Saturday evening.

The honours round out a stand-out year for Smith, who was also selected in the inaugural PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland Under 23 All-Stars team that played against Brisbane Roar last month.

Smith lives on the Gold Coast and travels to Brisbane upto four times a week for training and matches.

He said he was humbled by the recognition of his commitment and performances for the team.

“The main thing for me was to keep on improving and this has been the best year for me so far,” he explained.

“You work hard all year and at the end of it to be recognised it’s hard to explain the feeling - it’s just awesome.”

Also recognised on the night was Rookie of the Year Hamish Maguire, who made his senior debut with the club in 2015 and amassed 14 appearances during the season.

Prolific striker Antonio Murray also claimed the club's Golden Boot award after delivering 16 goals during the campaign - more than three times the return of his next best teammate this season and moving him to fourth in the competition’s all-time goal scorers list.

Smith said the team was now looking to build on a strong finish to the 2015 campaign and become a title contender next season under the guidance of new coach John Kosmina.

“It’s pretty exciting. We’ve been promised a lot and obviously Kosmina is a big name. We want to fight it out and show everyone what City is all about,” he concluded.
