Moreton Bay United midfielder Alex Janovsky hopes his prior Westfield FFA Cup successes will translate to his new club as they prepare to host Capalaba FC on Wednesday night.

Off-season recruit Janosvky was part of the Lions FC side that reached the Round of 16 last year before being eliminated by Hyundai A-League powerhouse Perth Glory.

He has made an immediate impact since moving into the national second tier this season, but is determined to also again taste the bright lights of the later stages of the Westfield FFA Cup this year.

“It’s a great competition. It can really put you on the map. It’s an important day on the calendar for us.”

“You can be live on Fox Sports, there’s a financial bonus, especially if clubs get a couple of home games. It’s a big thing in any season.

“Success would be getting in to last 32 Australia-wide, last two in Brisbane, that would be what all the teams are striving for."

(Jets) won the league and the grand final last year, so that’s what our goal, our main focus, should be - and that should be achievable.”

Janovsky added that while there are difficulties in balancing successful league and cup campaigns it is not an impossible task – as his former club demonstrated last year by also claiming the Premiership title in the third-tier Flight Centre Premier League last year.

“It is difficult when you are playing more than other teams in the competition and midweek games - you need a deep squad, which we have (at Jets).”

“But there’s no real different approach. Just perhaps more focus on winning and getting the result as it is a knockout competition, but I’m sure the boys will be up for it.”

Recalling his experiences last year, Janovsky said Lions’ win against South Australia’s Croydon Kings in the Round of 32 was a special moment.

“It was a cold night in Adelaide, which we weren’t used to. We played on an all-weather pitch, unfamiliar for us, but we played well and won.”

“It was a great night with all the boys and the team down there,” he concluded.

Jets have twice been unsuccessful in attempts to qualify for the Westfield FFA Cup Round of 32, which marks the entry point for Hyundai A-League clubs.

However, the defending PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland Champions have prior experience on the national stage after meeting New South Wale’s clubs Edgeworth FC and Blacktown City in last year’s PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues Finals Series.
